Jones 3rd at Tour of Virginia
Wow! What a week. We went to the Tour of Virginia to help out VMG racing (US National Team). We also hooked up the team with Chris Jones as a guest rider. The idea was to help teach the younger national team riders how to ride for a GC guy-Chris Jones. We were not sure how the race would go as we did not have the race bible in advance so we did not have a feel for the course profile. Let me tell you, the race was REALLY REALLY hard. Both Chann McRae and Frankie Andreau felt the course was harder than any American Stage race including the Tours of California and Georgia. Basically, the course is epic.
We found this out on stage 3 when the final Cat 1, 7 mile climb destroyed the riders. I was driving the van in the caravan and literally had 4 riders at a time holding onto the van 3/4 of the way up the climb due to the steepness. The climb was the hardest I had ever seen. The Sierra Nevada driver one car ahead of us kept saying "wow" every time time we switched back up the mountain and saw that the climb just kept going at such a steep grade. Basically, every car in our back group (5 cars) had 2 to 4 guys holding most of the way up. There were also fit pros stopped on the side of the road just standing there trying to recover. It was EPIC. Anyway, Chris Jones took 3rd on the stage and kept rolling to an impressive 3rd overall.
I could write a book about how hard some of the stages were but my writing skills suck so I will end it here.

Williams Cycling to "Tour of Virginia"

Brandt takes 2nd at Jacksonville NRC Crit
Ally Brant, riding for TARGETRAINING Pro Women's Cycling rode well in Jacksonville taking second place in the crit.
A note from Ally...
Just wanted to let you know I got 2nd at the Jacksonville, FL NRC Crit this past Saturday...and I did it on my Williams 30s :) They handled awesome. The crit was downtown Jacksonville and the wind was swirling all over the place - cross winds and headwind but the wheels were perfect. Of course zillions of potholes but the wheels withstood everything. I was able to get in the break and then attacked for the win but a girl came around me 10m from the line!!!!! Thought I had it, but was very pleased w/ 2nd.
Thanks again for your support - the wheels ROCK!!!

A nice email we received today!
I was reading a cycling magazine review of mid priced carbon hoops and afterwards I felt compelled to write you. Granted I was comparing apples to oranges, but I can only imagine that the Carbon wheelset you now offer is even a better deal.
In terms of performance, weight and above all price, the Williams 19 wheelset has me thinking ‘carbon is so dated’. Few things seem to be ‘as advertised’, but I can truly state that the Williams 19 wheelset is the ‘put the hurt on ‘em’ wheelset.
Performance – spools up quickly for sprints and hill climbing. Impervious to crosswinds.
Price - $550 for wheelset, pads, hub, skewers, tires (love those Columbiers!) and tubes!
Thanks again for my ‘secret weapon’ (I have been spreading the word at the expense of revealing my ace in the hole!).

Jones has bad luck /crashes out of US Open Cycling Championships

Total Bummer for Chris as he has been flying over the past couple weeks. Chris placed 20th overall at Redlands and won a race last week leading into the US Open Championships in Richmond, VA. I personally was looking for a top 5 or 10 out of Chris but lady luck had different plans. No worries Chris...it's a long season and good things come to good people and those who train hard....and Chris had always trained hard.
Chris has tested many prototypes over the last year for Williams Cycling. We appreciate all his help.
